Ranco ETC-111000 Wiring and Programming Instructions Ranco thermostats are relatively easy to wire up, even for the novice. However, if you have any doubts about your ability to do so, please order your unit pre-assembled. Better safe than sorry! I think that you will find that the savings of doing it yourself is not all that great and it is easier to purchase the pre-assembled unit. Pre-assembled units are also programmed for heating, differential and 85 degree temperature. All you will have to do is set them up and adjust your temperature setting to your needs. The lockout switch is located on the inside of the case cover. It can be used to prevent tampering or accidental change of settings. MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG THE UNIT BEFORE OPENING THE CASE! If you don't you may get an unpleasant reminder! DIY Wiring Instructions You will need the following: 5" of 12 gauge stranded
insulated wire, (1) 15 amp power cord of your desired length (heavy
duty extension cord works well), (1) outlet strip, (1) wire nut (rated
for 2 14-12 ga. wires), (1) 3/8” wire clamp, electrical tape. First you will need to disassemble the Ranco and install
the cable clamp in the bottom of your housing. Next, you want to cut
the plug off of the outlet strip leaving as much of the wire as possible.
Strip away about 1/4" of insulation off of the three wires. You
will also need to cut off the female end of your power cord if you are
using an extension cord. Strip the ends of those wires as well. Insert
the black wire from your heat source (or outlet strip) under the screw
labeled "NO". Next, you will need to make a jumper wire. You
want to make sure it is 12 gauge to handle the full power capacity of
the Ranco Thermostat. It is important you do not go with too small a
wire here or you will be in for trouble! You want to screw the jumper
under the "120V" and "C" screws. The black wire
from your power cord will also go under the "120V" screw with
the jumper. Next, you want both of the white wires (heat source and
power cord) under the "COM" screw. That should leave you with
just 1 or 2 green wires depending on whether or not your heat source
has a grounded (3 prong) plug or not. If there is just the green wire
from your power cord you can simply tape the end so no bare wire is
exposed. If you have 2 green wires you will need a wire nut of appropriate
size to twist them together. Last, check all the screws are firmly tightened
and your wire nut is secure. Reassemble your Ranco and you are ready
to go! Programming your Ranco etc 111000 Thermostat Step 1: Press the set button, now select "F" for fahrenheit Step 2: Press the set button a second time, set your desired teperature. Step 3: Press the set button again, set your differential temperature to "1" Step 4: Press the set button again, set the cooling/heating mode to "H1" Your Ranco Thermostat is now ready to go!
